The major local event of the weekend was at the Norfolk Showground where the Norfolk Gazelles held their annual ‘Big Stampede’ event. Such a lovely event where all levels throughout the club come together to cheer on each other and thankfully the weather play its part this year after the torrential rain last year. Firstly – Thank you to Steve & Sarah Dixon for bringing along the gazebo on the day.
We had 7 members enter the Individual 5k event and 52 members in the Championship relay event over numerous WAC and Non-WAC teams. Congratulations to all – in the individual event Ben Smith (21:33) was first WAC home and Danielle Gilbert (26:38) the first WAC female. Michelle Sadler (PB - 28:27) achieved a new shiny PB and we had placings from Ben Smith 3rd M40-44, Christine Williams 1st F70+ (27:11), David Evans 2nd M60-64 (27:21) & Michelle Carter 2nd F50-54 (32:53).
Within the relay event Kevin Holland (16:34) was first WAC male, followed closely by Cameron Messenger (16:54) & Jacob Kenworthy (17:24). Our first WAC females were Marathon legs Alison Armstrong (19:26), Claire Kent (19:59) and Alexandra Ely (20:08).
Personal bests on the day were achieved by Andrew Mundy (PB - 21:14), Louise Stevens (PB – 21:25), Hannah John (PB – 21:59), James Heaney (PB – 23:09) & Rob Stratton (PB – 27:15). Adam Baker set a new M40+ club record with a time of 17:26 (CR) flying around the three lap course in the better choice of club vest than normal!
Our placers within the relay event were: - Kevin Holland 1st overall, Adam Baker 3rd M40+, Alison Armstrong 2nd female overall, Kevin Frazer 2nd M60+ (19:56), Kate Gooding 3rd F40+ (20:06) & Claire Brown 1st F60+ (22:12). Our team placings included our Female open team ‘Fast and Fabulous’ comprising of Kate Gooding, Alison Armstrong, Claire Kent & Hannah John, our Men veterans team ‘The Geri-Activities’ comprising of Kevin Frazer, Stephen Dixon (21:04), Adam Baker & Kevin Holland & our Mixed Veterans team ‘Happy feet’ comprising of Paul Fairchild (19:25), Alex Ely (20:08), Claire Brown & Dan Brocklehurst (21:55). Even though 1st places were only recognised in the final presentation we also had a senior Mens team finish 3rd overall and 2nd Men’s open - comprising of Steven McNicholas (17:30), Ali Shearer (18:09), Jacob Kenworthy & Cameron Messenger.
Well done to all – brilliant running from every single WACer there on the day and the noise / support coming from the newly formed ‘WAC corner’ was amazing!
