W/E 14.10.23 - XC fun, Half Marathons Galore & a Cambridge 10k.

First up on our review of the week we focus firstly on the XC races – Last Wednesday we had two runners in the mid-week EACCL - East Anglian Cross Country League at race 2 of the summer league from Wells-next-the-Sea. First home for WAC was Adrian Hall, finishing 4th overall and 1st M55; our other runner was Dennis Carter. Well done you two!
Next up on the XC train was the first race (5k) of the Ryston Runners AC XC Grand Prix series – first home for WAC was Juliette Watkinson in a time of 18:46 to finish 1st female overall prior to Adrian Hall (19:54 – 1st M55), Martin Jones (23:46) & Kevin Denmark (24:45).
Further afield we travel to Mallorca where the Beynon pairing of Cindy & Ben took on the Palma Marathon Mallorca half and full marathon respectively. Cindy finished in a time of 1:56:18 and Ben flew around in a PB time of 3:02:32 to finish 21st overall. Well done you two in some biblical rain before and during the race.
There were also another two half marathons on Sunday, joining Cindy over the same distance, we had one runner in the The Chelmsford Marathon and Half Marathon and 7 runners in the Great Eastern Run Half marathon in Peterborough. Steve Ely was our representative in Chelmsford and he whizzed around in a time of 87:03 to finish 29th overall and 1st M50 – Well done Steve!

First WAC home over in Peterborough was David Houghton in a time of 83:27 and first WAC female home was Hannah John in a time of 1:40:56 (PB). Personal bests were registered on the day by Hannah and yet another one this year from Rob Stratton(PB - 2:11:57) – Our biggest congratulations goes to Graham Walsh as he set yet another Club record with his time of 1:42:49 (CR) and was 1st M70+ on the day - Well done Graham!
Staying in Cambridgeshire we also had 7 members taking part in the Town and Gown 10K in central Cambridge. Shaun Braybrook was first WAC home in a time of 37:42 and first WAC female was Alison Armstrong in a time of 38:38. Some amazing running saw 6 out of the 7 runners achieve a new Personal Best over the distance with Mark Armstrong (PB - 38:00), Alison Armstrong (PB), Lisa Greengrass (PB - 42:49), Claire Woodcroft (PB - 42:59), James Heaney(PB - 47:51) & Susan Guest (PB - 48:50) all storming around the course. This brilliant running also meant Alison Armstrong was 3rd F40 & Susan Guest was 2nd F60. Well done to you all!
