This weeks review is of the yearly spectacle (and David Powles‘ favourite event) the Norfolk County XC Championships – we had 29 members turn up to a very cold 🥶☃️❄️🥶 and soggy underfoot Earlham Park. Unfortunately the course was redirected from entering the woods section due to recent flooding caused by the river Yare bursting its bank earlier in the week. Nevertheless the tough 10k (ish) course consisted of 3 gruelling laps where our WACers slogged around for some brilliant results – first home for WAC was Aiden Banfield (32:10) finishing a brilliant 9th overall in a very tough field & first female home was Juliette Watkinson (38:42), finishing 6th female overall.
Some amazing results from all whom attended however our age category winners were: - Kevin Holland (34:35) 3rd 🥉M45-49, Matt Webster (35:12) 2nd 🥈M35-39, Adam Baker (37:29) 3rd 🥉M50, Jet Watkinson 2nd 🥈F40-44, Claire Brown (45:25) 1st 🥇F60-64, Graham Walsh (47:37) 1st 🥇M75-79, Andrew Lane (51:08) 2nd 🥈M65-69 & Kevin Denmark (51:09) 3rd 🥉M65-69.
We also had 4 team medal winners also: - Senior Bronze for the M35-49 Men’s team comprising of Kevin Holland🥉, Matt Webster🥉 & David Powles🥉 (did I mention he loves this event). Veteran Gold for the M50+ Men’s team comprising of Adam Baker🥇, Mark Banfield 🥇(38:18) & David Houghton 🥇(39:16).Senior Gold for the F35-49 Ladies team comprising of Jet Watkinson🥇, Alison Armstrong 🥇(41:29) & Kate Gooding 🥇(42:29).Veteran Silver for the F50+ Ladies team comprising of Claire Brown🥈, Susan Guest🥈 (53:16) & Sue Stirling🥈 (55:21).
Congratulations to all of the above however a massive thank you to all the supporters on the day, making a lot of noise, and well done to the rest of the runners that represented the club so well – William Parker (39:18), Adrian Hall (41:41), Matt Goode (42:05), Craig Skipper (43:01), Stephen Dixon (43:07).
